This change means travelers must carefully reconsider their route, especially if Clark is not convenient for their schedule or budget. (Nevertheless, taking a direct flight remains the fastest way to reach El Nido, although it is also the most expensive option.) 

For many visitors, the most practical alternative is flying into Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) and continuing overland to El Nido. 

In this guide, I’ll break down the real travel time, compare van vs. bus options, and help you decide which route best fits your itinerary and travel style.

How long is the journey from Puerto Princesa to El Nido?

If you’re traveling to El Nido via Puerto Princesa, the journey takes you across lush countryside, winding mountain roads, and small local villages, turning a simple transfer into part of the travel experience.

The distance between Puerto Princesa and El Nido is approximately 260 kilometers, and the travel time typically ranges from 5 to 6 hours, depending on road conditions and scheduled stops.

From my experience, taking a van is the fastest and most convenient option, usually reaching El Nido within 5 to 6 hours. It’s relatively comfortable and ideal if you want to maximize your time there.

The bus, on the other hand, takes about 6 to 7 hours. It’s the slowest option, but it is more budget-friendly and suitable for travelers who don’t mind a longer ride through Palawan’s scenic countryside.

Instead, you need to travel to Puerto Princesa Land Transportation Terminal in Irawan, which is about 4 kilometers from Puerto Princesa Airport. A taxi or tricycle ride usually costs around PHP 500–600, so this extra step adds both time and cost to the journey.

However, once you’re on board, the experience is generally more spacious than a shared van. Buses usually seat 30 to 40 passengers, unlike shared vans where you’re often shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, bus seats are wider and set further apart, giving you more legroom.

The ride is also less cramped than a van, especially on long stretches of winding mountain roads. The larger vehicle is more stable when navigating Palawan’s famous hairpin turns.
